Burger King refuses to buy more cooking products from Indonesian group
    Vietnam Tribune
    Sunday 5th September, 2010

Burger King has made the decision to stop buying palm oil from an Indonesian company.

The US hamburger chain has said it will cancel a contract with PT Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology over concerns it has not adopted sustainable farming practices.

Environmentalists have recently accused the Indonesian company of destroying rainforests and the wild animals that live within them.

Burger King said the contract with Sinar Mas Agro had proven to be inconsistent with its corporate responsibilities.

Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of palm oil, a cheap commodity used to manufacture cooking oil, margarine, cosmetics and biofuels.
