PPP says no proposal under consideration for granting extension to Kayani

    (ANI)

The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has denied there being any proposal being considered regarding extending the service of Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Interacting with media persons during a press conference here, PPP Central Secretary Information Fauzia Wahab said no proposal for granting extension in service to the present Army chief was under consideration at present.

She was responding to queries whether the government was contemplating to extend the service of General Kayani following the grant of one year extension in service to Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General (DG) Ahmed Shuja Pasha.

Wahab, however, hinted that the PPP government is not in favour of extending General Kayani's tenure.

"Whenever in the past extension in service was granted to any of the army chiefs, it never went in the interest of democracy and the country," The News quoted Wahab, as saying.

Responding to question, she stressed that Parliament is a sovereign institution and all other institutions were supposed to work under it.

"Whatever decision the Parliament takes on judges' appointment, the government would implement the same," Wahab said. (ANI)
